FABRIC

We create work that lasts and we know choosing the right fabric to fit a project, be it for your home or for a commercial project, can seem daunting, so we’re always happy to talk fabric.

At SDR Upholstery we maintain close links to a whole range of fabric companies, from large, multi-nationals to small, independent designers, so we can always be aware of the latest ranges and developments. Here are just a small selection of companies we work with: Bute, Eleanor Pritchard, Kvadrat, A Rum Fellow, Camira, Chase Erwin, Dedar, Whistler Leather, Liberty Fabrics, Lewis & Wood, Christopher Farr, Flock.

Even if you have a fabric in mind, we’d always encourage you to have a conversation with us before making a choice as we can advise on suitability to your specific project and help you find the perfect thing. We also offer competitive rates when you buy through us.

SUSTAINABle Upholstery

While we believe that reupholstery is inherently more sustainable than buying brand new, mass produced furniture, some of the materials upholsterers have come to rely on in recent years have a questionable environmental impact. We’re constantly looking for more sustainable solutions for our upholstery work and will consult with you to find a low impact approach to your upholstery project and find ourselves increasingly utilising natural and recycled materials as alternatives to PU foam and synthetic fibres.

CASE STUDY

We recently worked with Mentsen, on a project to create an upholstery solution for their artfully crafted furniture for 2 Bessborough Street in Pimlico. Their main ask of us was to use natural upholstery materials and avoid use of PU foams to reduce amount of chemicals that go into the upholstered pieces of furniture, without compromising on the quality and finish. We worked together to create solutions that would achieve the right level of comfort and durability for high use furniture, without utilising foam.

You can read more about the project HERE. The sofa base was constructed by Mentsen from solid European oak, with webbing frame made in beech. We used jute webbing, cushions were filled with a special wool/cattle hair mix produced specially for the project and the covers made with natural fibre fabric from Tibor.

The seat and backrest on the armchairs were upholstered with natural latex foam for smart slim finish, again in a natural fibre textile from Tibor. There are more images in our workshop gallery.
